Quavavau Ashoona was born on February 19th,
1967 in Cape Dorset on Baffin Island in Canada's high arctic
where he presently lives.
He is the son of the late renowned Cape Dorset
sculptor Koomwartok Ashoona . His late grandmother was the
famous Pitseolak Ashoona, and his uncles are/were Kiawa Ashoona,
the late Kaka Ashoona, and Namoonai Ashoona. Ohitok Ashoona
is his brother.
Quavavau is best known for his bear carvings.
He carves them in different poses: walking, standing, dancing.
