Mark
Totan

Mark Totan was born in 1953 in the small town
of Igloolik located on Baffin Island in the Northwest Territories.
He has has also lived in Hall Beach and
Iqaluit. Mark presently resides in
Hall Beach, west of Baffin Island.
His
two sons, Tony and Clivelon are also carvers.
Mark, like most Inuit artists, is self-taught. He carves
in a variety of stone (steatite, serpentine and argillite)
and antler mediums. His sculptures are well known and Mark
especially enjoys carving polar bears.
